The Oracle database engine team works on a wide range of technologies that are central to the Oracle database, and the team is at the forefront of database technology innovation. Examples of these areas include core transaction technologies that underpin the functioning of the database such as locking, multi-version concurrency control (MVCC), distributed transactions and commit coordination protocols. We also provide the transactional maintenance for Oracle’s superfast columnar store and for its HNSW AI vector index (https://blogs.oracle.com/database/using-hnsw-vector-indexes-in-ai-vector-search). The transactional consistency of the HNSW Vector Index is one of the major differentiators between Oracle and other databases.
We have significant efforts underway in applied AI, JSON technologies such as JSON Relational Duality (https://www.oracle.com/database/json-relational-duality/), network protocol technologies, and we are also currently working on a major database engine effort.
The team publishes regularly in conferences like SIGMOD (including an accepted submission to SIGMOD 2026), VLDB, ICDE, and members of the team hold 100+ patents.
We are looking for highly motivated systems engineers who can make a significant difference. If you have a strong background in systems programming, we would love to talk to you. Database internals (storage engine, query engine, etc.) systems programming experience is a plus. We are hiring at all levels of seniority.
