I largely agree with your message of last Friday. I prefer we 
stay away from implementation notes or analysis. Reference to 
additional information is perfectly fine.

I like your text. I would include the note about Ethernet. My preference
would be to not include the implementation notes though I don't find
anything terribly objectionable in them. It would be nice to include a
reference to additional informative information on CRC generation
particularly since some references out in the world seem to be misleading.
