Multimedia Networking

Abstract:
Multimedia applications, or more precisely continuous media applications, exhibit performance and traffic characteristics that are different from traditional data communication applications. While people agree that additional networking support is needed for this emerging class of applications, they disagree on what mechanisms are needed, where these mechanisms should be employed, and more fundamentally, what should be the right problem to solve. In this talk, I will review the design space for multimedia networking, present the state of arts, and discuss open issues.
