TITLE: The New Era of Data Management: MongoDB and Document Databases
SQL databases have been the dominant form of data management since the late 1970's. However, computing and technology have evolved, leading to an influx of data and new systems to manage it. For this new generation, "Document Databases" quickly emerged as a popular solution and became widely used among companies of all sizes. Using MongoDB as the example, we'll look at why Document Databases are a good fit for the modern world and how to move from the relational thinking of the SQL world to a Document oriented approach.
Dwight is one of the original authors of MongoDB, the open-source document database. In 1995, he co-founded DoubleClick (acquired by Google for $3.1 billion) and served as Chief Technology Officer for 10 years. Dwight was the architect of the DoubleClick ad serving infrastructure,
DART, which serves tens of billions of ads per day. Earlier he was Co-Founder, Chairman, and the original architect of Panther Express (merged with CDNetworks), a content distribution network (CDN) technology. Dwight is also a Co-Founder of, and investor in, Business Insider and Gilt Groupe.
