      RESEARCH INTERESTS:

My research interests lie in building distributed computing systems that operate effectively despite the efforts of intelligent adversaries. The adversary's goal may be to manipulate the behavior of the system, to make the system unavailable, or to expose information that should remain secret. The adversary may even be in control of some components of the system, due to capturing them physically or penetrating them electronically. My goal is to develop new technologies in computer security, applied cryptography, and survivable distributed computing to ensure correct operation of a system in the face of such attacks. My interests range from the small-e.g., preventing an attacker from extracting secret information from a mobile device he has captured-to the very large-such as national voting systems and Internet survivability. Examples of current and past research projects can be found on my personal home page (http://www.ece.cmu.edu/~reiter/ ).
