Job Summary
The Advanced Technology Group is responsible for incubating, prototyping, and evaluating new ideas within NetApp. We work directly with internal product groups to apply these ideas in the context of our existing and future products. We also sponsor university research and currently collaborate with research groups in more than a dozen universities.
ATG is seeking interns for our Summer 2015 Intern Program. Our internship program is an approximately 3 month summer experience that will provide you an opportunity to gain in depth knowledge about NetApp’s business and culture as you enjoy meeting with organizational leaders during lunch, network with your fellow interns at various social events, and present your hard work to NetApp executives and management. These positions will be located at our offices in
- Research Triangle Park, NC
- Sunnyvale, CA
- Waltham, MA
As an intern in ATG, you will have the opportunity to work with a mentor performing cutting-edge research while working with real storage products. Individual projects will be decided on a case-by-case basis with input from the intern.
Key areas of research:
- Capacity and archival storage systems
- Cloud storage environments
- Software reliability and quality
- Data-driven management
- Large scale distributed systems
- Applications of Storage Class Memory (SCM)
- Storage efficiency (deduplication, compression)
- Storage security
Essential Functions:
- Concept Research & Analysis - You will work with your mentor on project definition and design, and influence decisions and outcomes related to project direction. Master’s students may be given more well-defined design tasks on an existing project, as part of the internship
- You will socialize and gather input/feedback from other members of ATG, on your ongoing work
- Presentations: You are expected to give multiple presentations during the period of the internship (past academic work, work-in-progress talk, final results of intern project, etc.)
- Collaborate with your mentor on publishing your work internally or in an external conference. Master’s students might not be expected to publish their work, depending on the project
Job Requirements
Requirements:
- Strong oral/written communication and presentation skills are essential
- Experience in software design and development
- A strong understanding/experience in algorithms, data structures and complexity analysis
- Ability to develop short-range project plans and schedules for individual work
- Expertise in at least one of the following languages: C, C++
- A track record of publications is preferred for Ph.D. candidates
Experience in any of the following areas is a plus:
- Knowledge of operating systems concepts and implementation
- Familiarity with one or more file-system architectures. Experience with analyzing and troubleshooting them
- Practical experience in database storage engines, network protocols or highly available distributed systems
Education and Experience
Master’s or Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science or a related field.
