    SYSTEMS AND STORAGE RESEARCH INTERNSHIPS

    The storage systems department at IBM Almaden Research Center has multiple internship openings for qualified and motivated graduate students to join a variety of research projects as 2008 summer interns.

    The department explores and develops new technology in storage systems, integrated enterprise systems management, file systems, and high-performance storage software. Research projects range from advanced scalable storage controllers, autonomic server/network/storage management, server and storage virtualization, self-configuring high-performance cluster file systems to explorative projects (adding intelligence for data management with in storage system, exploring techniques for increased resiliency and reliability of storage controllers, building storage systems based on non-volatile storage class memories.     The typical research group is comprised of a handful of researchers and engineers, with PhD & MS Degrees in CS. Past interns have contributed significantly to IBM technologies and have submitted patents as well as published papers in top conferences including Usenix ATC, Usenix FAST, VLDB and many others. Exposure in performance evaluation, kernel programming, distributed systems & storage systems advantageous. Preference would be given to those with prior experience in academic or industrial research or industrial software development.
