We are currently seeking highly qualified people with MS and/or PhDs or equivalent experience to help shape the future of HP's Enterprise information technology business here in Silicon Valley. Candidates should preferably have a background in one of the following areas:
- Large-scale distributed systems
- Storage systems, file systems and/or database architecture
- Use of new hardware technologies (e.g. multi-core processors, non-volatile memory, GPUs, FPGAs) in distributed and/or storage systems
- Data-intensive computing (e.g., MapReduce, Hadoop)
- Management of performance and quality-of-service in distributed and/or storage systems
- Reliability, availability, and fault-tolerance in distributed and/or storage systems
- Computer architecture
- Extreme scale Indexing and Search algorithms
- Large scale machine learning algorithms
- Dynamic resource management and scheduling
- Operating systems internals and design
We will also consider candidates with strong backgrounds in other areas of computer systems, networking, computer security, parallel programming, and system modeling and measurement.
Our labs have ambitious, cross-disciplinary research projects, which aim to demonstrate our research and technology advancements on prototype systems and through pilots with customers and HP's own global organizations. We have a global presence with researchers working in Palo Alto, California, Bristol, England and Haifa, Israel
Qualifications
- MS or equivalent experience in a relevant field (computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, statistics, etc.). PhD preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to generate, frame, and carry out leadership research as shown, for example, by papers published in top-tier conferences or journals.
- Ability to work independently and in teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong systems development and software engineering skills.
Systems Software Researcher

HP Labs is seeking highly-qualified researchers with strong background in operating systems and distributed systems to advance our systems software platform for next generation heterogeneous hardware. Candidates will be expected to generate, frame, and carry out leadership research working independently and in teams. Areas of research include OS abstractions and resource management mechanisms on heterogeneous resources including those with accelerators such as GPGPUs and FPGAs.
Candidates with experience in OS internals, heterogeneous platforms, accelerators, and scale-out big data workloads will be desired.
Education
- PhD or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
Qualifications
- Strong software building skills, good C/C++/Java programming skills.
- Demonstrated ability to generate, frame and carry out leading edge research.
- Knowledge of operating system internals, networking, and distributed systems.
- Experience with Linux kernel, OpenCL/CUDA, and heterogeneous platforms a plus.
- An analytic ability and curiosity to research technical issues; complemented by imagination, questioning and experimentation to generate creative/innovative solutions.
- Demonstrated research contributions via hands on prototyping in addition to research papers
- A commitment to life-long learning and a demonstrated ability to acquire new knowledge transparently as an implicit part of a project.
- Strong communication skills and fluency in English.
Systems Software Developer

HP Labs is seeking highly-motivated individuals with strong systems building skills to advance our systems software platform for next generation enterprises. The individual will work with a team of researchers and product groups to prototype and demonstrate key research artifacts. Areas include next generation scale-out big data frameworks, performance optimization tools, OS libraries, and systems management frameworks. The research prototypes will be built on next generation platforms containing heterogeneous hardware including accelerators.
Qualifications
- Strong software building skills, good C/C++/Java programming skills.
- Strong communication and analytical skills
- Knowledge of operating system internals, networking, and distributed systems.
- Experience with big data frameworks, Linux kernel, OpenCL/CUDA, and heterogeneous platforms a plus.
- Fluency in English.
